IKOGA RESIDENTS SENSITIZATION ON WASTE MANAGEMENT AND PROPER DISPOSAL
This intervention followed the recent excavation of an illegal dumpsite within the Ikoga community, which had existed for over two decades. The development highlighted the urgent need for sustained public education and community engagement to prevent the reoccurrence of indiscriminate waste dumping in the area.
The sensitization exercise was aimed at educating market traders, commuters, and road users on responsible waste management practices, while reinforcing the importance of proper waste disposal in protecting public health and preserving the environment. Through practical engagement and direct conversations, participants were encouraged to adopt cleaner habits that support a safer and more hygienic market environment.
As part of the exercise, waste nylons were distributed to traders to promote proper waste collection and disposal. In addition, reusable tote bags were shared to reduce reliance on single-use plastics and encourage environmentally friendly alternatives within the market space.
The Clean-Up Badagry Initiative and Prudential Zenith Life Insurance reaffirm their commitment to promoting environmental sustainability, supporting community-driven solutions, and working with local stakeholders to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Badagry.
