Ikoga Dumpsite Excavation Project
The excavation exercise marks a critical first phase in the planned redevelopment of the long-standing dumpsite, which has posed environmental, public health, and aesthetic challenges to residents for over two decades. Upon completion, the project is expected to improve environmental quality, enhance community aesthetics, and contribute to sustainable development in the area.
Speaking on the project, the Chairperson of the Clean-Up Badagry Initiative, Mrs. Tosin Whingan noted that the intervention aligns with the organization's broader mission of promoting environmental sustainability, responsible waste management, and community-led climate action across Badagry communities.
The partnership with Prudential Zenith Life Insurance underscores the environmental value. The collaboration reflects a shared vision of fostering cleaner, healthier, and more livable communities.
Community leaders, youths, market men and women, and residents have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the transformation of the Ikoga dumpsite into a green space will serve as a recreational and environmental asset, while setting a model for similar interventions across Badagry and beyond.
The Clean-Up Badagry Initiative reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with all stakeholders, including community members and partners, to ensure the successful completion of the project and the sustainable management of the green space upon completion.
